Holiday Gift Guide #1: Shop Local, Shop Female!
The season is upon us once again Sleekformers! The holidays are here, whether we’re ready or not! We must admit- we LOVE this time of year. We can’t get enough of the holiday-themed drinks, glittery tops, sparkly lights- you name it, we’re here for it when it comes to the holidays.
The thing we love the most is spending time really thinking about our loved ones and picking out the perfect gift for them- we take real pride in being excellent gift-givers here at Sleekform. The other thing we pride ourselves in is our incessant obsession with other female-owned small-businesses and spreading the word in all the cool things they do and make and how they are changing the world with their out of the box thinking ideas.
We have a whole series of gift guides planned for this holiday season that we’ll be coming out with weekly on Fridays for the month of December (**spoiler alert, everything we have planned is DOPE).
Each week we will have a new theme! Who doesn’t like a theme?!
This week we are starting off strong with our favorite female-owned, Austin based businesses! These are truly businesses we love and products we’ve tested and tried. Also, I feel like it’s important to mention that none of these are sponsored ads- we are just using this as an opportunity to gush about all the lady bosses we are obsessed with in town.
So, without further ado- let’s get gifty with it!
Betty Alida- @bettyalida
We first discovered this Betty Alida on Instagram and we immediately were obsessed with this jewellery and then when we realized it was owned by fellow Austin based entrepreneur Jennifer Gaewsky we were thrilled.
Her handed beaded jewellery are works of art you can wear. Jennifer is an incredibly skilled jeweller and the intricate beaded designs are conversation pieces that go with anything. There is something for everyone in her collection and will make whoever you gift one of her pieces to feel special and beautiful!
Go check out her entire collection- and make sure to note that if you want to have a piece shipped to you in time to give by December 25th make sure you place your order before December 8th!
Kara Marie Photo Studio: @karamariestudio
We discovered Kara Marie and her work earlier this year and we knew we had to work with her as soon as we saw her work. Kara is an Austin based photographer who specializes in black and white boudoir photos (and now also ergonomic furniture photos- stay tuned for that!). She has her own studio in East Austin ( doublecheck that) and photographs women in the most empowering, honest way we’ve ever seen.
If you have a woman in your life who excited by the idea of being in front of the camera we can’t recommend gifting her a shoot with Kara more! We guarantee she’ll end up leaving the shoot feeling so beautiful and power and will be thanking you for the experience for the entire year.
Another great Kara Marie gift is for the budding photographer in your life. Kara has done us all a favour and made Beauty + Boudoir Business instruction. There is no better gift than showing someone you believe in their abilities and encourage their passions. We love the idea of giving this as a gift, and we can vouch for Kara’s expertise and ability.
COCO Bundle @cocobundleco
If you’re looking for an opportunity to give back this holiday season, we urge you to check out COCO bundles. COCO bundles elevate the re-housing process, adding a beautiful, unexpected gift of high-quality home essentials - things like dishes, kitchen tools, bath towels and bedding. We all need to share and grow in our homes, and our bundles of durable everyday items are designed to honor a new space and a new way of life.
COCO bundle was founded by the incredible Kelly Laplante. She’s a hardworking local mama who goes above and beyond to make an impact on our community and I admire her endlessly!
There are many different ways to give through COCO bundles- games + slippers, sheets + towels, home essentials- the list goes on. You can check out their holiday registry page here.
Wanderlust Yoga ATX @wanderlustyogaatx
Give the gift of health and mindfulness this season! Wanderlust Yoga ATX is our favorite yoga studio in Austin. They have two studios, one Downtown and one on Domain drive. They have SO many different classes to choose from and the atmosphere there is always so positive and energizing. Since I moved to Austin two years ago it’s really become a second home for me.
Whether you’re giving a gift to a veteran yogi or a total beginner I can guarantee they will feel at home at Wanderlust too. A major advantage of the studio is that they have a dope cafe attached with the best acai bowls in town!
They have gift cards available and an added bonus is that you can buy them online! The only thing better than giving a thoughtful gift to someone you love is being able to get it from the comfort of your couch!
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a rug from Apt F in each room in my house. I am obsessed with this store. You can visit the brick and mortar storefront here in Austin but the beautiful part of this store is that you can shop the entire store online and they ship nationally!
Apt F owner Ashley Yetter curates an assortment of homewares, textiles, vintage rugs, artwork, apothecary, and much more from around the globe. If I HAD to pick a favorite local store to shop from Apt F is definitely a contender. Everything she carries is so spot-on, luxurious and top quality. I know that if I was gifted something from Ashley’s store I’d be stoked this holiday, so maybe this has just ended up being a gift guide specifically for my husband?
Her rugs are a really big investment (and totally worth it, btw), but she also has a ton of smaller more giftable items for anyone in your life who appreciates gorgeous home accessories. Shop everything here- and then tell me what you got because I’m already so jealous.
There you have it! These are my top five favorite choices for places to get epic, thoughtful gifts in Austin while supporting female-owned businesses. I love to shop local whenever I can, and it’s always such a bonus when they are owned by women.
Is there an Austin based, female-run business that you’re as obsessed with as I am with the ones I listed above? Please share them with me! I’m always looking to check out new places in town.
