What the heck is "Ergonomics" anyway?!

Let's start with a good old fashioned dictionary definition:

Ergonomics are wildly important when creating and maintaining a productive place to work. There are countless benefits to optimizing your work space to be more ergonomic, but we've broken it down for you with our top 5 reason why you should be evaluating the current ergonomic set up of your work space.

1. It Reduces Costs!!

We talked about this in our last blog post (y'all can read that here!)
but the skinny of it is that according to the OSHA static postures and poor
workspace set ups account for $15 BILLION in workers compensation costs
YEAR. Hellooooo!

2. Improves Productivity.

We could preach this to you until the cows come home-
if you are comfortable you will stay focused longer. You will look for less reasons to get up and move around, your mind will be calm allowing you to focus on your tasks.

3. Improves Employees Engagement.

Employees notice when the company is putting forth their best efforts to ensure their health and safety.

If an employee does not experience fatigue and discomfort during their workday, it can

reduce turnover, decrease absenteeism, improve morale and increase employee involvement.

4. Quality Improvement.

Poor ergonomics leads to frustrated and fatigued workers that don’t do their best work.

When the job task is too physically taxing on the worker, they may not perform their job like they were trained.

So whether you're the boss, (or you're your own boss) take the time to check in with your employees (or yourself) and find out how they are feeling and what changes can be made.

You may be surprised how small, simple changes (like how they are sitting) can make HUGE improvement to the product they are putting out.

5. Safety Culture.

Ergonomics shows your company’s commitment to safety and health as a core value.

The cumulative effect of the previous four benefits of ergonomics is a stronger safety culture for your company.

Did that clear up any questions you had about the heck ergonomics are and why you should be investing time, effort and money in improving you current ergonomic set up?
